PayPal just announced a partnership with ChatGPT. Agentic commerce has officially begun. Very soon, people will be able to buy products directly through ChatGPT because of this integration.
If you have any kind of e-commerce business, this is a major opportunity. Right now, most businesses don’t even know this is happening. The ones who get their products into ChatGPT early will have a massive advantage.

ToggleWhat Is Agentic Commerce?
Agentic commerce is the new model where AI “agents” like ChatGPT find products for users and help them complete purchases directly in the chat interface. The AI acts like a personal shopper. It browses merchant catalogs and securely handles orders so shoppers can go from chat to checkout in just a few taps.
A few weeks ago, OpenAI announced the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP). This is an open standard that defines how ChatGPT (or any AI agent) exchanges product, order, and payment data with merchants. ACP lets AI agents, businesses, and users work together to complete purchases without changing a merchant’s existing back-end systems.
Around that same time, they also announced a partnership with Shopify.
But this new integration with PayPal makes it easy for anyone who has integrated their catalog with PayPal to start selling their products on ChatGPT.

Why This Matters for Your Business
Here’s the thing: as you’re using ChatGPT, whenever it senses you might be interested in a product, it’ll perform searches on your behalf and show you products you might be interested in.
Instead of using an existing search engine, it searches through its own merchant catalog. That catalog comes through partners like Shopify and PayPal.
Based on what we’ve seen from ChatGPT’s search capabilities, it’s going to be much less sophisticated than search engines like Google. At least early on.
This means the products it chooses to recommend will probably be mostly (or maybe even entirely) based on the information you yourself give it. Things like the title, product description, and reviews on your own website.
That’s actually a huge opportunity.
All product recommendations in ChatGPT are ranked purely by relevance. There are no ads or paid placements. ChatGPT explicitly does not accept paid placements. Instead, it shows products purely based on relevance and trust signals.
So your product’s visibility depends entirely on how well its data matches the query, not on ad spend.
How to Get Your Store into ChatGPT
To sell on ChatGPT, your store must connect its product catalog through an official partner integration. The first two major partners are Shopify and PayPal.
If You’re on Shopify or Etsy
If your store is on Shopify or Etsy, you’re already eligible with no extra development needed. Shopify has built the pipeline so that hundreds of millions of products are instantly discoverable in a format that AI understands.
Shopify merchants will see their store names clearly shown in ChatGPT results. Orders from ChatGPT go straight into Shopify’s backend with normal attribution and fees.
To participate, apply via the ChatGPT Merchant application. Shopify and Etsy sellers don’t need to fill out a separate form. No manual catalog uploads or new APIs are required.
If You Use PayPal
I highly recommend you go to paypal.ai/agenticcommerce and join the waitlist right now.
PayPal is rolling out a ChatGPT integration via its new ACP Server. By adopting the Agentic Commerce Protocol, PayPal will make its tens of millions of merchant catalogs discoverable in ChatGPT.
According to their press release, as long as your product catalog is integrated with PayPal, you will automatically be able to show up in ChatGPT.
PayPal will connect its global merchant network through a trusted access layer. Merchants pay via PayPal as usual, and PayPal handles routing and validation behind the scenes. The integration is expected to begin rolling out in 2026.
Go to paypal.ai/agenticcommerce and fill out the waitlist form. This makes you discoverable in AI-powered shopping results and enables PayPal-powered checkout in ChatGPT.
Other Platforms
Any merchant can also integrate directly via the Agentic Commerce Protocol. If you use Stripe, enabling agentic payments can take as little as one line of code.
You can apply to provide a product feed and Instant Checkout integration via the Merchant form on ChatGPT’s site.
How to Optimize Your Product Listings
If you haven’t already, make sure you’ve optimized your product titles, descriptions, and reviews.
As we’re learning with AI search in general, large language models use search engines very differently from how humans do. There’s still going to be a lot to learn about how to show up in agentic commerce. But for now, focus on these three areas.
Product Titles
Use long, clear titles that incorporate all the main terms a customer might use.
Include brand names, model numbers, core features (size, color, use case) in natural language form. ChatGPT will parse your title as part of its search structured data.
Avoid vague or overly short titles. Be specific so the AI can match queries like “stainless steel 10-inch frying pan with lid” directly to your product.
For example, instead of “Frying Pan,” use “Stainless Steel 10-Inch Frying Pan with Lid – Non-Stick Coating.”
Product Descriptions
Provide a comprehensive product description (one or two paragraphs) that answers potential customer questions.
Include all specs: dimensions, materials, compatibility. Highlight how customers use the item. Use conversational language.
OpenAI’s guideline is to build pages that answer user queries, use natural language and short paragraphs, and add FAQ sections.
For example, your description might say, “This blender can crush ice – it has stainless steel blades and a pulse function” if that’s a common question.
Tell the AI everything it needs: product benefits, use-cases, and any key attributes (battery life, materials, etc.) rather than just listing bullet points.
Customer Reviews
ChatGPT’s shopping mode prominently uses ratings and reviews. It shows star ratings and even summarizes review sentiment for each product.
Positive, detailed reviews become a trust signal that can boost ranking. The system uses review summaries to determine what users value.
Do whatever you can to drive reviews to your most important products. Actively solicit customer reviews through follow-up emails or inserts asking about specific features. If possible, display some on your site.
The more positive your reviews, the better. ChatGPT is known to maximize your positive review visibility when ranking products.
ChatGPT Shopping vs. Google Shopping
ChatGPT Shopping is very different from Google’s product search.
Organic, no-ads environment: ChatGPT’s product results are 100% organic recommendations. There are no sponsored listings or ads. In contrast, Google Shopping allows paid ads and relies on complex bidding/auction systems.
Reliance on your data: Google’s ranking uses page authority, backlinks, and Google Merchant Center optimizations. ChatGPT currently relies more directly on the structured metadata and content that sellers provide.
Its algorithm is simpler: it queries the live product feed and page content, then ranks by factors such as price, availability, ratings, and the relevance of the description.
Conversational queries: ChatGPT handles queries in natural language and may incorporate chat context. Google often expects keyword-based queries.
For sellers, this means optimizing for phrases like “best durable tent under $200” or answering full questions in your content.
You can think of ChatGPT search as a new sales channel powered by your product data, rather than traditional SEO.
