Why Is My Marketing Not Working? 3 Fixes That Work in 2026

Business owner creating authentic marketing content through video, voice memos, and community conversations.

Your marketing probably stopped working for two reasons. AI changed how people find information, and audiences got much faster at spotting content no real person made. Ads, generic blog posts, and AI slop all get skipped now.

At TJ Digital, short-form video is the only marketing we run for ourselves, and it’s carried us to roughly 42 active clients with a two to three month waitlist and zero outbound sales. The three fixes that still work are daily short-form video, voice memos feeding a knowledge base, and showing up in the communities your customers already use. All three put an actual person back into your marketing.

Why Are Google Ads More Expensive and SEO Less Effective?

Ad costs climb every year. The pool of people willing to look at an ad keeps shrinking, and a 2026 Gartner survey found 81% of U.S. consumers say they try to ignore and tune out ads. Every advertiser is bidding for less attention than they were last year.

SEO shifted for a different reason. Google’s results are becoming AI search, and ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode now handle questions people used to type into a search bar. Pages built to rank the old way don’t pull the traffic they used to.

Why Do People Ignore Generic and AI-Generated Content?

Because they’ve seen thousands of examples and they recognize the pattern in about two seconds. People know what an ad looks like and they swipe past it. They’re getting just as good at spotting mass-produced AI content.

I’ve been doing this for 17 years, and I watch it play out with clients across a dozen industries. The content that earns engagement carries a specific person’s opinion. The content that gets skipped could have been written about any company in the category.

Can You Hand Your Marketing to an Agency and Walk Away?

Not anymore. The marketing that performs today needs input from someone senior enough to speak on behalf of the business.

An agency can build the system, run the distribution, and handle the production. Your opinion has to come from you. That’s the part nobody can outsource.

What Are the Three Ways to Make Marketing More Authentic?

There are three approaches, and they work in any combination. Video is the strongest. Voice memos paired with a knowledge base come second, and showing up in the communities where your customers already talk comes third.

ApproachTime it takesWhat it producesBest for
Daily short-form video15 to 30 minutes a dayOne video that repurposes into roughly 10 assetsOwners comfortable on camera
Voice memos plus a knowledge base5 to 10 minutes per topicArticles and pages that sound like the owner wrote themOwners who prefer talking to writing
Community comments20 to 30 minutes, a few days a weekQuestion and answer pairs, AI citations, blog topicsBusinesses whose buyers ask questions in public

How Do I Use Short-Form Video for Marketing?

Find 15 to 30 minutes a day and record. I do mine while I’m walking my dog. No script, no studio, and no production value required.

I try to get all of our clients doing this and almost none of them do. That’s the honest number. The ones who start see results faster than anyone else on our roster.

How Long Should a Daily Marketing Video Be?

One to three minutes on a single idea works best. Sticking to one topic per video gives AI a clean input to work from later. Longer videos are fine when the topic needs the room.

What Do I Do With the Video After I Record It?

Repurpose it. One video becomes an article, several social posts, an email, and a handful of short clips. That process is how we build a content machine for every client.

I’ve written more on why video builds trust faster than any other format.

What If I Don’t Want to Be on Camera?

Two other inputs work almost as well. Voice memos and interview transcripts both capture your thinking without a camera pointed at you.

You still hold years of insight, experience, and opinions worth publishing. Those ideas need to come out of your head and get organized so they’re easy to reuse.

  • Interview transcripts. We interview every client and process each call transcript into their Brand Ambassador, the AI project that knows how their business talks.
  • Voice memos. Before we draft anything, we ask the client to ramble about the topic into their phone for a few minutes.

We store those knowledge bases in Google’s Open Knowledge Format, a markdown spec published in June 2026 for handing curated context to AI agents. AI handles the entire writing process from there. The voice memo is what makes the finished article sound like someone at the business wrote it.

What Should Go Into a Company Knowledge Base?

Everything you’d tell a new hire in their first month. That means sales call transcripts, the questions customers ask most, product decisions and the reasoning behind them, and stories from past projects. A video transcript beats a voice memo here, since it’s the same raw material with a video attached.

Where Should I Show Up If Customers Aren’t Coming to My Site?

Show up where your customers already talk, which tends to be the same handful of places AI cites before it recommends you or one of your competitors. Reddit, Facebook Groups, and LinkedIn cover most industries.

This works when you or someone at your company actually enjoys being there. Leave comments, answer questions, and help people. Anyone doing it purely for quick results burns out long before the results arrive.

Those comments have a second life too. Take every question and answer pair and process it into your knowledge base. Real customer questions match real search queries far better than anything you’d come up with in a brainstorm.

How Long Before Authentic Marketing Produces Leads?

Community placements move fastest, and we’ve watched AI visibility climb within a day of one going live. Traditional SEO gains still take three to six months. Video and knowledge base work sits between the two.

The first few videos build the raw material, and the compounding shows up once you have thirty or forty of them feeding the system. Most owners quit around video eight, which is the whole reason this stays a competitive advantage.

How Do You Scale Authenticity When There’s Only One of You?

Train your company AI to talk like you. Whatever you’re doing to interact with your community online, capture it and feed it back into a system that can reuse it.

There’s one of you, and your calendar caps how much of you your market gets. Capturing your voice once and putting it everywhere is how you get past that ceiling.

Your marketing starts working again when customers can tell a real person stands behind it. Contact TJ Digital to build the system that captures your voice and puts it in front of the people already searching for what you do.
